  • What are your frames made of?

    Our frames are made of premium, hypoallergenic cellulose acetate, which we source from a family-owned factory in Northern Italy (the very first to create faux tortoise shell) and from Japan.

  • How do you keep your prices so low?

    We believe that incredible quality should not cost a fortune. We keep our prices reasonable by designing our eyewear in-house and working directly with manufacturers, removing all middlemen from our supply chain and passing along the savings to our customers.

  • Does Classic Specs make non-prescription sunglasses?

    Absolutely. We make both prescription and non-prescription sunwear, using the highest quality UVA/UVB protective lenses on the market. Polarized lenses come standard in all prescription and non-prescription sunwear.

  • What is the vertical measurement or overall width of your frames?

    Check out the frames page of your favorite style. All the measurements you need for a perfect fit are ready.

  • What forms of payment do you take?

    We can accept all major credit cards (VISA, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express), as well as FSA and HSA cards. Learn more about FSA glasses purchases.

My Order

  • How long will my order take?

    Glasses containing single-vision prescription lenses will take 5-7 business days to process at our Optical Lab. Glasses containing progressive prescription lenses will need 7-10 business days at the lab. Once orders are completed at the lab, they take 3-6 business days to ship to their destinations.

  • How can I give you my prescription?

    We want to make sure you have an amazing experience. We offer 4 ways to share your prescription.

    1. Use the guide below to fill out the fields needed for self input.
    2. Call your Doctor: Fill out the form and we will do the work. All we need is your doctor's name, phone number, and your date of birth and we will take care of the rest.
    3. Upload your prescription directly to our customer service team.
    4. Send it later. Send your scanned image to service@classicspecs.com
  • What is the status of my order?

    Simply log into your account to check the status of your order. You will also be able to track your order if it has already been shipped.

  • What does my order come with?

    Every pair of glasses or sunglasses you order comes in a Classic Specs gift box, containing a beautiful hard-shell protective case and a microfiber cleaning cloth.

  • Why did I receive a Prop 65 warning?
    Prop 65, or the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, is a law passed by the state of California for safety regarding plastics in consumable products. At the beginning of your lenses production process, a chemical called Bisphenol-A (BpA) is added to ensure consistent optics. BpA is most common in other molded plastics like soda bottles and food grade packaging. Since you won't be consuming your lenses you don't have anything to worry about. Have fun with your new specs!

Prescriptions and Rx Information

  • What is my PD, and how do I get it?

    Your pupillary distance (PD) is the distance between your pupils in millimeters, and it allows us to align your prescription perfectly in your lenses, according to the unique position of your eyes. To figure out what your PD is, you can simply:

    1. Print out the PD ruler at 100% without scaling.

    2. Fold the PD ruler in half along the indicated line.

    3. Measure yourself in front of the mirror or have a friend help you.

    4. Place the PD ruler over the bridge of your nose with the 0 above the center of your left pupil.

    5. Look straight ahead and mark the stop on the PD ruler that lines up with the center of your right pupil.

    6. Enter your PD measurement into your prescription
      when you select your glasses.

  • What are high index lenses, and do I need them?

    High index lenses are used with particularly strong prescriptions, and are made of a material with a higher refractive index (pl 1.67) than standard index lenses - essentially, they can accommodate a stronger prescription in a lighter, thinner lens. If you suffer from the 'coke-bottle' effect from thicker lenses, you might want to give high index lenses a try. We recommend high index lenses for prescriptions stronger than +/-4.00 sphere, or for prescriptions that have both a significant sphere value and astigmatic correction (or cylinder value).

    You will be able to select the package that best suits your needs in the checkout process after you enter your prescription.

  • What's the strongest prescription that you can fill for eyeglasses?

    The strongest prescription we can fill is -10.00 sphere, +6.00 sphere, or +/-4.00 cylinder. If you have a stronger prescription than these limits, you are welcome to purchase our frames without lenses and have your prescription filled locally by your optometrist. To do so, find your your favorite style and simply select "add to cart".

  • What kind of lenses and coatings do you use?

    Our lenses are made from polycarbonate, one of the most shatter-resistant materials on earth. We also offer and high-index (thinner) for high prescription. You will be able to select the lens package that best suits your needs in the checkout process after you enter your prescription.

    Every single pair of our eyeglass lenses are then finished with anti-reflective and scratch-resistant coatings, which are included in the purchase price of the glasses.

  • Do you offer progressive lenses or bi-focal lenses?

    We offer free-form HD progressive lenses, which are made with the latest precision computerized surfacing equipment for the greatest clarity and most accurate prescription. We use an algorithm to calculate the segment height, in order to ensure you have the perfect prescription at every point in your lenses.

    We do not offer bi-focal lenses at this time. Please email service@classicspecs.com to join the contact list for this product.

  • My prescription includes prisms... can you fill it?

    Prism prescriptions are for sensitive eyes and help to reduce muscular strain. They're best filled in person. For prescriptions containing prisms, we recommend you purchase our frames without lenses (starting at just $80) and then bring them to your optometrist to have your prescription filled locally.

  • What if I only want to buy the frames and have my prescription filled elsewhere?

    You are welcome to purchase the frames alone. They are different prices, depending on the style, and come with clear plastic demo lenses that are easily removable. To buy the frames alone, find your favorite style and simply select "add to cart".

Shipping

  • How much does shipping cost?

    We proudly offer free shipping within the United States - including Hawaii and Alaska.

  • When will my order be shipped?

    Please allow 5-7 business days from the day you place your single-vision prescription order for it to be shipped from our Optical Lab, and 7-10 business days for progressive prescription orders. An additional 2 business days may be necessary if we are requested to contact your doctor to retrieve your prescription, and orders that are missing important information may also require extra processing time.

  • How will my order be shipped?

    We ship all of our domestic orders via USPS First Class. When your order ships, you will receive a shipping confirmation email containing a tracking number so you can track the progress of your order.

  • Do you offer expedited shipping options?

    Unfortunately we do not offer expedited shipping at this time, though we are working on options to expedite your order in the near future.

  • Do you ship to Hawaii and Alaska?

    Absolutely; we ship to Hawaii and Alaska via USPS First Class, and there is no charge for shipping to these states.

  • Do you offer international shipping? How much does it cost?

    No. We do not offer international shipping at this time. We are working on expanding our shipping to Canada.

Returns And Exchanges

  • What should I do if I need to return or exchange my new glasses or sunglasses?

    You may return it within 30 days of delivery. We will even provide you with a FREE return shipping label. Call our customer service to obtain an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) number and a free return-shipping label. All products must be returned with any unused warranty cards, instruction booklets, cleaning cloths, and cases when applicable. The RMA number MUST be written on the outside of the package and/or on the return shipping label.

  • Returns Due to Size, Color, Fit, or Other Preferences

    You can return items for any reason within 30 days of receiving them. Just call our customer service department first at 1-800-896-2561 so that they can get you started with the return process and get your FREE return shipping label.

    ? Prescription lenses are custom-made and, therefore, cannot be resold.

  • I want to buy a second pair of glasses. Do I need to find my prescription all over again?

    We keep your prescription on file so that your re-order process can be quick and easy. If you go into the order history, you are able to see your previous order there. To place an order for your second pair of glasses, all you would need to do is find a frame you are interested in and reenter your parameters.

Insurance Info

  • What types of insurance do you accept?

    At this time we can only accept insurance in the form of an FSA or HSA (two types of health insurance which look and act like debit cards). We no longer write up itemized receipts for insurance reimbursement purposes, but you may advise your insurance provider to simply split the total price in half to account for the cost of frames versus lenses.

  • What is an FSA or HSA?

    An HSA (or Health Savings Account) is a medical savings account of pre-tax dollars. The account allows you to set aside a portion of your wages to pay for health and wellness expenses. At the end of the year, any unused amounts may be rolled over to subsequent years.

    An FSA (Flexible Spending Account) is similar to an HSA with a few key differences. Those with this type of coverage must use the funds in their account or they will expire at the end of the year. Learn more about FSA glasses purchases.

  • What can I purchase with my FSA or HSA?

    Classic Specs accepts FSA and HSA dollars for all prescription eyewear purchases (including prescription sunglasses, progressives, and readers!) as long as your FSA or HSA card is affiliated with a major credit card.

    Be sure to double-check the balance on your FSA account before making your purchase.

    If you would like to use your FSA or HSA card to pay for a portion of your purchase and apply the remaining balance to a different card, please call us at 1-800-896-2561. We would be happy to set that up for you.

  • Can I buy sunglasses with my FSA or HSA?

    Yes, absolutely, as long as they are prescription sunglasses.

Warranty Policy

  • What does your warranty cover?

    All of our frames and prescription lenses are covered by a 1-year manufacturer's warranty. Lens defects typically covered include:

    • Cracks not caused by rough handling
    • Peeling coatings

    Frame Defects typically covered include:

    • Stripped screws
    • Broken nose pad posts
    • Broken or loose hinges
    • Dislodged jewels or logos

    We will repair or replace your item free of charge, as long as it is returned to us within one year of purchase. Call or email our customer service department to find out if the damage is covered under our warranty and to get your free shipping labels.

    Please do NOT attempt to repair eyewear yourself – we cannot accept products that have been tampered with for return under a manufacturer's warranty.
