Basic Eye Care

Taking care of your eyes for a lifetime is essential, and sadly, not enough people realize it. Thankfully, with men’s glasses fashions coming into vogue, more people are seeking spectacles. However, knowing how to care for your eyes at home is the first step in only wearing men’s glasses for the sun or only purchasing online for decorative purposes!

Comprehensive Eye Exams
Begin with a comprehensive eye exam. This includes pupil dilation, revealing issues you don’t feel or notice. Many common vision problems go undiagnosed until it’s too late, and many people don’t realize how much online glasses can improve daily life.

During this exam, the doctor uses eye drops to dilate the pupils. The doctor can then look through the eye to the back and search for any issues. If there are signs of damage or disease, the doctor will discuss further options with you. Progressive glasses, prescription sunglasses, or other remedies may be recommended to protect the health of your eyes.

Family Health History
Some diseases, such as macular degeneration, have a genetic link. Know as much about your family history as possible, and communicate it with the doctor. It will be noted in your chart, and the doctor will be aware to watch for signs of these issues.

Take Care
Taking care of yourself benefits much more than outward appearance. The eyes benefit from a healthy lifestyle as well. While men’s glasses have become fashionable, you only want them for decorative purposes, not a lifetime of correction. Eat a diet of fruits and vegetables, especially dark, leafy greens. Incorporate fish into the diet to boost eye health. Maintain an ideal weight for your height and body type, tracking your BMI. Ensure to protect your eyes at all times, especially in the sun, which can harm the eyes with intense UV rays. Find prescription sunglasses, and wear protective eye equipment when working with anything that could harm the eye. Ensure your eyes are protected by polycarbonate because it’s stronger than other plastics used for safety goggles.

Don’t Smoke
If you’re smoking, quit. If you never started, don’t start. Smoking damages the body and is related to many eye diseases. In extreme cases, smoking can cause blindness.

Get Some Rest
Anyone who spends much time in front of a computer or is focused on one thing might forget to blink. The eyes become fatigued quicker. As a general rule, use the 20-20-20 rule: for every 20 minutes of concentrated work, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds to reduce eyestrain.

Spoil yourself and purchase glasses, whether they are prescription or decoration. However, care for your eyes to avoid more serious complications that can blind or severely affect how you see the world.
